December 3-9 is Computer Science Education Week. To get involved, eighth grade math students at LMS will “participate in the Hour of Code™ at ACMECorp.com on Friday, December 7. The Hour of Code™ is a nationwide initiative by Computer Science Education Week [csedweek.org] and Code.org [code.org] to introduce millions of students to one hour of computer science and computer programming.”
“The Hour of Code is designed to demystify code and show that computer science is not rocket science—anybody can learn the basics,” said Hadi Partovi, founder and CEO of Code.org. “Over 100 million students worldwide have tried an Hour of Code™. The demand for relevant 21st-century computer science education crosses all borders and knows no boundaries.”
“We live in a world surrounded by technology; and we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning how technology works. Only 35% of all high schools teach computer science.”
“That’s why the 8th grade is joining in on the largest learning event in history next Friday: The Hour of Code™, during Computer Science Education Week. ”
