Just like equations, inequalities are solved by isolating the variable (getting the letter all by itself). With one exception, we follow the same steps that we use for solving equations. When we multiply or divide by a negative number while solving an inequality, we must flip the inequality sign. While a basic one variable equation generally has only one or two solutions, an inequality will have many solutions. To represent these solutions, we graph the inequality on a number line.
